Getting to Islay
Reaching Islay is an adventure in itself, with two convenient travel options. You can take a scenic CalMac ferry from Kennacraig to Port Ellen or Port Askaig, enjoying breath taking views along the way. Alternatively, opt for a quick Loganair flight from Glasgow, arriving on Islay in around thirty minutes.

Learn about the traditional whisky-making process and enjoy a whisky tasting session featuring Bowmore’s signature drams.
Evening – Dinner & Live Music at The Lochside Hotel
As the sun sets, take a short stroll to the Lochside Hotel, known for its fantastic whisky selection and warm hospitality. Indulge in a delicious meal featuring fresh local produce, then enjoy an evening of live traditional Scottish music.
Day 2: Coastal Walks & Local Flavours
Morning – Walk Along Machir Bay
Wake up refreshed and head out for a scenic walk along Machir Bay, one of Islay’s most stunning beaches. With golden sands stretching for miles and the Atlantic waves rolling in, it’s the perfect spot for a peaceful morning stroll or a bit of wildlife spotting. On your way, why not nip in to Kilchoman Distillery, Islay’s only farm based distillery.
Lunch – Fresh Seafood at The Oyster Shed
After your walk, make your way to The Oyster Shed for a mouth watering seafood lunch. From freshly caught oysters to smoked salmon and crab, this hidden gem serves up some of the finest local seafood on the island. Keep an eye on their Instagram page for opening times and availability.
Afternoon – Relax & Explore
Spend the rest of the day exploring at your own pace, whether it’s a visit to the picturesque village of Portnahaven for a spot of seal watching or a visit to the iconic round church in Bowmore, (built so that the devil can’t hide in any corners) your options are endless. For history buffs a visit to Finlaggan, the historic seat of the Lord of Isles and Clan Donald, is a must. Alternatively, unwind with a peaty dram at the lodge in front of the wood burning stove and watch the sun set across the loch.

Morning – Visit to The Islay Whisky Vault
Before heading home, make a stop at The Whisky Vault to stock up on some exclusive bottles of Islay’s finest whiskies. Whether you’re looking for a rare bottle or a special dram to remember your trip, this shop is a must-visit for whisky lovers. Look out for special tasting events too.
